What does it mean to be an advocate?
An advocate defends the rights of people with intellectual, behavioral, and developmental disabilities, as
well as promoting self-advocacy. At GHO, we encourage those who participate in our services to become
self-advocates in their community.
In the forms of speaking, writing or acting, advocates can defend a person with intellectual disabilities
from discrimination, harassment, abuse and neglect.
Advocacy gives you the opportunity to mentor and teach skills to that can help people with disabilities
learn valuable life skills.
