Puerto Plata in the Dominican Republic was the first stop in the seven-day journey to the Eastern Caribbean Islands. Other island visits included St. Martin and St. Thomas. While on the ship, everyone enjoyed the freedom of daytime activities—the swimming pool, hot tub, video arcade, dance classes, trivia, sports, and more–and lively evening entertainment including productions of “Burn the Floor” and “Priscilla, Queen of the Desert” and themed dance parties. While visiting multiple islands group got a chance to absorb local culture, discover the complicated legacy of European colonialism, explore beautiful architecture, exotic scenery, and some of the most beautiful beaches in the world.
Reflections from Trip Members
Cassandra Raffucci: I had an amazing time on the Norwegian Epic Cruise! This was my second time traveling with AHRC NYC. I loved hanging out with my friends and enjoying the excursions in the Ocean World of Puerto Plata Dominican Republic, and the sightseeing tour in St. Martin, but the excursion I enjoyed the most was Megan’s Bay beach in St. Thomas. I’m definitely going back on another cruise with AHRC.
Theodore Furstman: I think the cruise was very nice and I liked the trip a lot. My favorite part was the food and pools. My favorite places are St. Martin, Megan’s Bay at St. Thomas, and Ocean World water park & ocean zoo.
Manuel Morel: I cannot thank AHRC enough for the amazing trip we just got! Some of us never will have this opportunity and you made it possible. After being isolated because of COVID-19, I felt blessed and lucky to participate in this cruise. Thank you so much for believing we can do this and more!
Crystal Rodriguez (staff): What a productive and rewarding experience! Cruising through the Caribbean Islands with 20 participants was definitely an adventure. Seeing the smiles, hearing the laughs, and soaking every bit of the sun was nothing short of blissfulness!
